Day 74a - Two Green Shirts with Explination

The day before St Patricks Day Jeremy (who's almost 5) brought me two green shirts. I've suspected for years that he's colour blind. Last summer his Optomitrist had him look at the test. Technically Jeremy was too young to test but based on his results I'm certain he's standard red/green colour blind.
Interestingly so is his father. If you remember back to highschool biology red/green colour blind is an x-linked trait. Which means Jeremy got his from me. Mom and I didn't know about any family history but we asked and apparently my Mom's Mom had an uncle who was. So it's been silently passed down through the females.
Even more interestingly (for a genetics geek like me). If Scott and I ever have a daughter she will have a 50% chance of being red/green colour blind which is a very rare thing in a female.

  1. Very interesting! My husband has the same problem, and it has created some amusing situations for us over the years!
